Oakton, VA - Navy and Oak

Project Background

Project Goals

The homeowners wanted to update their kitchen while maintaining the warmth and character of their existing oak cabinetry. Much of the home contained original hardwood furniture dating back to the 1800s, so preserving the natural wood tones in the kitchen was an important design consideration.

Rather than replacing the cabinetry entirely, the project focused on modernizing the space while keeping the existing cabinets as the foundation of the design. The renovation included refinishing the cabinets, expanding the cabinetry vertically to increase storage and visual height, installing new hardwood floors, and updating lighting throughout the kitchen.

The result was a significantly brighter and more functional kitchen that blended modern finishes with the home’s traditional character.

  • Modernize the kitchen while maintaining traditional wood cabinetry
  •  Preserve the warm oak tones that complemented the home’s antique furniture
  • Increase storage and visual height with additional cabinetry
  • Replace outdated tile flooring with hardwood to match the rest of the home
  • Improve lighting and brightness throughout the kitchen
  • Introduce contrast and modern design elements without losing character
